• Description/Remarks The Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower and Personnel acts as the Society's principal liaison with the Air Force, publishing a directive authorizing support for AFAS activities at base level Active duty and retired Air Force members and their dependents are eligible for AFAS assistance, as are the dependents of deceased Air Force personnel who died on active duty or in retired status Consistent with our charter, more than half of this assistance was for emergency needs such as vehicle repairs, emergency travel, rent, utilities, funeral expenses and the like<!-- business info --><br/><br/>Lt Gen Hopper is the Chief Executive Officer for Air Force Aid Society. In this role, he oversees an annual budget of $20 million and manages an endowment of more than $140 million. Hopper retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2005, after more than 35 years of distinguished service. Prior to retirement, he served as the Vice Commander, Air Education and Training Command, Randolph AFB, Texas.<!-- /business info -->
