With an eye for design detail and an interest in graphics, Johno du Plessis experimented with geometric patterns and, in developing his unique rubber mounted technique, effectively re-launched the ubiquitous cowhide rug as a luxurious contemporary floor covering that retains the inherent natural beauty of the hide and can be made in any dimension.Johno's quality cowhide rugs are hand crafted using the very best materials available. The leather is adhered to a special rubber backing; the chosen pattern is then stamped out and the stitch holes are punched. Much time and endeavour is spent in the important process of arranging the pieces so that each rug develops its own identity as the various shades and natural markings of the hide are placed; the components are then hand-stitched together using waxed cotton thread.
