Founded in 1926, the Wildlife and Environment Society of SA is South Africa's oldest and largest non-government, membership-based environmental organisation. WESSA maintains a watchful eye on the South African environment through its extensive network of Regional Offices , Branches , Friends Groups and Environmental Clubs



Donavan Fullard (BSc Ed and B.Ed degrees UWC, studying towards M Education Rhodes)General Manager: WESSA Schools and Youth unit Donavan has more than 25 years’ experience in the Education and Development sector working with schools, youth and communities across South Africa. Qualified as an educator he worked for 14 years in the formal education sector as a life science educator on the Cape Flats, thereafter moving on to SANBI, where he managed the national environmental education programmes within the national botanical gardens. He managed a national skills development and job creation programme, Groen Sebenza, attracting and employing 950 youth in the environmental sector, giving them invaluable workplace experience for a period of two-and-a-half years which led to their permanent employment. His current role at WESSA is as General Manager of Schools and Youth, where he is leading the transformation of the Schools and Youth programme on a strategic and impactful manner. The programme has grown beyond the Eco-Schools flagship programme to include 5 new pillars which was developed under his visionary leadership and includes 3 international programmes (Eco-Schools, Young Reporters for the Environment and Learning About Forests); Schools and Youth Entrepreneurship; Water and Energy; and Youth development. He is passionate about working with youth in schools and communities and being an agent of change.
