It is our task to assess the structure of your spine and to make sure that the entire spine is moving freely and without any hinderance of movement. We call this hinderance – a fixation or subluxation. This area of decreased movement can cause the spinal nerve in that area to become irritated by direct or indirect pressure which in turn affects related parts of your nervous system, leading to pain.So – it is a Chiropractor’s job to properly evaluate and identify any problem that might be present within your spine and to correct the problem by adjusting or manipulating the area concerned. However, before the adjustment is performed, the Chiropractor will evaluate the situation by taking your full health history, your family history, other conditions or ailments that you might have etc. Following this, physical tests including posture, motion, reflexes, neurological and orthopaedic tests are carried out to give the Chiropractor an increased understanding of your pain and where your pain might stem from. If further tests are needed and justified, the Chiropractor will send you for these; however they are not always necessary.Once the Chiropractor is happy with his/her evaluation and has confirmed that Chiropractic treatment should help your ailment, treatment can commence with adjustments/manipulations which are performed by hand and are high velocity low amplitude thrusts – directly applied to the specific area of your spine where a fixation was present. These adjustments are extremely safe.Each person will respond differently to treatment – and thus one patient will have instant pain relief from the Chiropractic treatment, and another patient may require a number of treatments for the pain or problem to be corrected – whilst the body learns to accept the changes and start to align itself properly.
