We are always inspired by the heroes of faith in Heb. 11. So are we by men of faith like Whitfield, John Bunyan and Spurgeon. Martin Holdt, well-known evangelical and Reformed leader in South Africa who was taken from us on the last day of 2011, was such a man. He spearheaded and supported many important ministries in South Africa like the Augustine Bookshop, The Grace Ministers Conference, The Evangelical and Reformed Conference, The Reformed Baptist Association, Reformation South Africa etc. Martin's powerful and blessed ministry stemmed from his prayer life and devotion to Christ and His bride, the church. He was willing to spend and be spent for its health and prosperity. For him sound doctrine was worth fighting for. He not only preached in the power and with the unction of the Holy Spirit, but also seek to raise up preachers with similar aspirations and therefor started a journal Preaching and Preachers and held Schools of Preaching to encourage effective expository preaching. He always advertised good Christian books from the pulpit and at conferences.
