All Carp Fishing Rigs are based on the Hair Rig that allows bait to be presented without sitting directly on the hook.
The Hair Rig is mainly associated with boilies, but works effectively with other baits as well.
Originally natural hair was used to link the bait to the hook. Unfortunately this material was fragile as fishermen sometimes lost their baits while they were casting and the bait didn't act naturally. Carp only took the free offerings and left the hook bait. These problems was solved with the appearance of braided thread, a new hooklink that allows threads to be as discreet as natural ones but more resistant.
Correctly tied Carp Rigs are crucially important because a rig that isn’t tied correctly will not only hinder you from catching a beautiful carp, they can also become life threatening to the carp that you are trying to catch.
If a rig breaks off from your main line and a carp cannot free itself from that rig it will die.
That is why we will try and teach you the different types of rigs and how to make sure that they are always carp friendly.

Creating the perfect rig is not brain surgery but it will take a little time, effort and maybe a lot of patience but once you start getting the hold of it you will be able to different types of rigs and have a better understanding of which rigs to use and which ones to give a miss that day. Just always remember one thing, no matter how good you start getting at making carp rigs you are still working with very sharp objects that can and will hurt you when ever they can. You will also at some points be working with steam and/or fire. Rather take a little more time and be safe than having to "fish" a hook out of your own finger or having to sort out some burn wounds and please, keep all objects away from children.
