Heat and Fluid Engineering was founded in 1975 to manufacture locally designed In-line Cooling Coils for the cooling of ventilation air in South African mines. Development was initially carried out in conjunction with the chamber of mines research organisation and the design subsequently translated into a commercial product by Heat and Fluid Engineering. The success of this product has attracted a number of export orders from different parts of the world as the mines internationally go deep enough to require underground cooling. Since the initial success of the In-line Cooler, Heat and Fluid Engineering has continued to develop new innovations for the mining industries cooling needs. This has led to the development of the Spray Cooling Car and then the Superspray Bulk Coolers. Other heat exchanger requirements have been met for the mining industry by the development of a water-to-water cooler for sugar industry and water-to-oil and water-to-grease coolers for the diamond mining industry. A recent innovation is to use the experience of manufacturing knitted wire mesh to create dust filter panels. Heat and Fluid Engineering is also a manufacturer and supplier of other mining products such as charging rods , penetrating oil as well as sewer cleaning equipment.
