Hip Resurfacing is a procedure in which the surfaces of the hip joint are prepared to accept a metal covering. The metal covering then forms the new joint. This is different from a total hip replacement where the head of the femur is cut off and a new metal ball on a stem is inserted into the canal in the femur.Hip Resurfacing reduces, as much as possible, the amount of bone that is removed from a patient at the time of surgery.Â
