Johnny Clegg Concert at Old Selbornian Club, East London. We are on holiday from New Zealand & our family thought it would be an African treat for us to attend this concert. What a disappointment! The tickets said the show would start at 7 pm so we arrived at 6:30. There was no seating except for a few benches & tables in the rain. There was no show until about 8 pm when a local band played a few songs. Johnny Clegg only came on at 9 pm, by which time some people had already started going home. Johnny Clegg himself was probably great, but all we could hear was an overpowering base which drowned out all the other instruments & Johnny Clegg's voice. The tent was divided so that those of us in the second section could not see anything & the sound was horrific. We could not hear what Johnny Clegg was saying when he gave info on various songs. In desperation we went upstairs to purchase a CD so we could come home & listen to what the concert SHOULD have sounded like. A RIP-OFF!
