Common Purpose runs experiential educational programmes that engage and inspire the rising generations of leaders to shape the future of their city or region. The aim is to equip them with the information, knowledge and networks to enable them to make positive change, and help them to work with others from different backgrounds and cultures. The programmes bring together participants from business, the public sector and the not-for-profit sector. Common Purpose started in the in 1989 where to date, over 25,000 people have participated in the programmes. The idea has spread and there are now programmes in , , , , , the , , , and . Common Purpose South was launched in 2000 with the backing of Cyril Ramaphosa and Nicky Oppenheimer both of whom are our Patrons. The programmes are well established in . In January 2007 we launched in and expect further development across the country to follow.
