Making Light Work. An enjoyable aspect in a photographic career is the privilege of being “out there somewhere” making and taking pictures, then of course there’s the journey to faraway places seeking specific locations to carry out ones craft. In order to sustain a lifestyle of photography and to travel while working, I had to make a paradigm shift within commercial photography and concentrate more on the automotive industry and associated media. Primarily, I pursue automotive advertising campaigns and travel magazines that have a special interest in the motor industry where ‘outdoor’ locations are the prerequisite. Though my home is Cape Town, I’m represented in Germany and am currently negotiating with agents in Italy and the United Kingdom. This added chapter brings on new challenges – finding and shooting on locations abroad. I had no idea the magnitude and diversity of landscapes outside my native land South Africa. However, there is an ingredient that remains constant, early morning or late afternoon ‘magic light’ - I love being in the middle of nowhere or the centre of somewhere or just about anywhere seeing how light moulds and shapes things of beauty.
