The Pietermaritzburg Benevolent Society was founded in 1861 by Lady St. George with the aim of assisting destitute people in the city Our main funding is from the National Lotto, Community Chest, Care Shop, Msunduzi Municipality, The D.G Murray Trust, Breadline Africa, Lewis Stores, Just Pies, Hulamin and a few smaller donations We assist families waiting for pensions and grants to be approved from the government, the unemployed, abused woman and children, child headed homes and some street people We receive donations in kind from businesses to distribute
