Retro without irony, this menu of mainly ’70s classics has, thankfully, not been updated and isn’t trying to be current or fashionable. It’s Robert Carrier meets English boarding school. A very colonial (read super-mild) prawn curry, duck bigarade and steak with Yorkshire pudding are all hot favourites. The quality seems to have suffered in the last year, with formerly plump, perfectly cooked prawns on the avo Ritz now morphed into low-grade half-cooked almost-shrimps. But imperfections are allowed. It’s the eating of the avo Ritz in this building that is what it’s all about.
