The people of Thailand greet each other with a “wai”, pronounced “why”. They do not shake hands like Westerners but greet by placing the palms and fingers of both hands together as in a prayer position in the centre of the chest and at different levels depending upon the level of gesture. The gesture is also accompanied by a slight bow of the head.
