Description/Remarks
The Catholic Health Care Association of South Africa represents two hospitals, 41 clinics, many hospices and day care centres for HIV/AIDS patients, and many other institutions in all nine Provinces

The Catholic Health Care Association (CATHCA) – “Compassionate health care in the service of Christ.” Our vision is to enable the provision of accessible high-quality holistic health care services in Southern Africa, especially rural and marginalised communities, in the spirit of service of Christ. Our mission is to affirm, develop, support and strengthen both individual health care workers and an evolving Catholic health care network, in cooperation with all other health care role-players. CATHCA is the associate body for health of the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC). It was founded in 1987 to support then-existing Catholic hospitals, serving as a voice for them, providing opportunities for networking and capacity-building, acting as a resource for government health policy, guidelines and strategy and sharing information on health issues. It continues to play this role for Catholic healthcare organisations and individual Catholic health workers throughout the region today. CATHCA supports Catholic healthcare institutions, organisations and healthcare workers who make up the Catholic healthcare network in Botswana, South Africa and Swaziland. These include hospices, orphan and vulnerable children programmes, home-based care projects, primary health clinics and care for the elderly programmes, as well as diocesan and parish health ministry projects. CATHCA is managed by a Board of Management while the day to day affairs are run by a National Office team based in Johannesburg. It is registered as a Non-Profit organisation (NPO) with the Department of Social Development and as a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) with the SA Revenue Services (SARS). It has a Level 1 B-BBEE rating and can offer local tax payers a tax benefit for donations.
