Her 2001 exhibition Curve, was commissioned by The Playhouse Company for the South African Women's Arts Festival 2001. It celebrates the feminine form in all it's diversity. Her subjects ranged in age from 8 days to 65 years old. In 2005 Val was awarded a Fools Award  for contribution to theatre through photography. In the same year The Durban Art Gallery acquired one of her prints The Stirling-Courts for their permenant collection. In 2012 she was given an award by KZN DanceLink for photographic services to Dance. DanceLink has now issued a commission to her to produce an exhibition of her Dance Photography in July 2013.
