Gugu Nzuza, the owner, began making beads from a very young age as she had been taught by her mother and grandmother and it became one of her passions. She had not considered it as a business until 2000 where she began by selling small things in her workplace such as beaded aids pins and beaded pin bracelets. She continued to do this until the year 2003 where she saw that there was a demand for her products and so should expand. n 2003 she began selling at flea markets as she found that most of the international tourists went to flea markets in order to buy traditional and ethnic beadwork when they come visiting South Africa. At this time she was operating under the name Siyenama Arts and Crafts. In 2005 she formally registered her business as Kalugongolo Trading Enterprises, named after her great grandfather. She has since grown her business and now showcases her products at Shongweni Farmers Market every Saturday and at various business fairs and exhibitions.
