Based in Cape Town, the wub combines web design and training in custom packages to give you a website and the skills to grow it.The wub was created to solve a problem with the way web design is normally done.The problem is that a website isn't a once-off expense, and web designers seem to doeverything they can to make you dependent on them. So you end up paying them tobuild the website, paying for support or maintenance, and then after a while you payagain to rebuild the whole thing.The project of creating your website is the perfect opportunity to develop the skills youneed to take ownership of your online presence. It can be difficult to take somethingyou learn in abstract on a course and then apply it on your own in the real world, and itis hard to take over a website that was designed by somebody else and then dumpedon you. At the wub, we build the website together, and explain everything as we do it.When we're done, it will be yours and you will know how it was created, and how tochange and develop it from there.The first step is to identify the person in your organisation who will take primaryownership of the website. They needn't be more technical than anyone else, but theymust be given both the responsibility and the freedom to make decisions about thewebsite as we go. They will spend a week working one-on-one at the wub, building andlearning.
