Textilaties first established itself as a needle and accessories supplier, growing from strength to strength over the years with the introduction of various agencies which for many years included the famous Bentley group of England which at the time employed 5000 workers around the Midlands of England

Textilaties (Pty)Ltd was founded by its owner Duncan Johnson on 15th October 1973. It was intended to service the knitting and general textile industry. Duncan was introduced to knitting machines through a five year apprenticeship at G. Stibbe & Co of Leicester England, from 1966 to 1971. Stibbe at that time built Rib, Interlock and Double Jersey Jacquard machines with much work done on electronic needle selection machines, which culminated in the production of a fully electronic Jacquard machine in 1970, way ahead of its time.
