We have a vision of empowered fishing communities with sustainable livelihoods, where all live in a democratic and socially just environment We took a strategic decision to focus specifically on our work in the fishing communities and registered as an independent trust In parallel to this process of sharing of information, we have also supported community leaders to mobilise and organise in order to become strong and influential democratic actors, and it is particularly this aspect of our work that has led to the establishment and empowering of the popular movement called Coastal Links With the introduction of Democracy in South Africa in 1994, our goal of putting an end to Apartheid was achieved, and it became time for identifying the new needs of the previously oppressed and mapping the way forward Up until the end of Apartheid in 1994, we provided access to information and undertook educational programmes for the Black population in South Africa in order to fight the oppressive regime
