  Price from 800 Being faced with an unwanted pregnancy can be devastating. Each woman’s situation is different, and the decision to have an abortion (or not) is extremely personal. It’s important for you to have reliable and accurate information, so you can make the choice that’s right for you. Every woman deserves the chance to make an informed decision about her pregnancy. And that means getting the facts. Do I need a referral? No. Although we encourage you to talk with someone, a friend or family member, you do NOT need their approval or permission to have an abortion. In South Africa, abortion done by a qualified doctor is safe and legal. You will be given a local anesthetic and/or intravenous sedation to keep you as relaxed and comfortable as possible. You may feel mild discomfort and cramping, much like menstrual cramps. How long does it take? The procedure itself takes about 5-10 minutes. Your appointment (which includes counselling, ultrasound, a doctor’s exam and aftercare) takes 2 to 3 hours. Feel free to request a female doctor. What to expect It’s a big decision. But it’s a very safe procedure. Just knowing what to expect can ease your mind. Medical vs Surgical Abortion There are two different abortion methods in practice today. Medical abortions use drugs to empty the contents of the uterus over a given period, while surgical abortions use instruments to produce the same results in 5 min. Medical abortions are only available during the early stages of pregnancy (up to 7 weeks from the start of your last period). They require more visits to the doctor and many times may eventually require surgical evacuation. We usually don't recommend it. Surgical abortion, which is also called suction aspiration abortion, uses a mechanical suction machine (similar to the one dentists use to clear the mouth of saliva) to gently remove pregnancy tissue from the uterus. This procedure takes only 5–10 minutes.

  Price:350 Antenatal check-ups prevent most medical problems. And even if there is a problem, early detection helps control the problem better. On your first visit, the doctor will take a detailed medical history and physical examination with specific laboratory tests and an ultrasound scan or sonar. Tests Recommended tests include blood-group and antibody screening for rhesus (Rh) factor; full blood examination to rule out anaemia and iron deficiency; rubella (German measles); syphilis; midstream urine test for urinary-tract infections; HIV; hepatitis B and C; and cervical cytology if there has not been a recent Pap smear. The above is a list of recommended tests for women without specific additional risk factors. Other antenatal tests may be discussed during your visit. Monthly check-ups On your subsequent monthly visits, the doctor will continue to monitor your weight, blood pressure, midstream urine and also do an ultrasound scan. The cost for antenatal check-ups is R300, including medication. Blood tests and other pathology investigations are done at an extra cost. Please enquire from the doctor. Antenatal visits card On each visit, our doctors will complete the antenatal card provided by our practice. You can use this card to book for delivery at any public hospital or clinic. Delivery In your seventh month of pregnancy, the doctor will assist you choose a suitable hospital for the delivery of your baby (usually Lakeview hospital). The doctor will then give you a referral letter and copies of results for all tests done. Early referral If you have a risky or complicated pregnancy, we will refer you to hospital earlier so that you can receive specialist care quickly – for example, diabetes in pregnancy, hypertension and twin pregnancy.

For patients coming in for a TOP, please expect the following questions; What date was the first day of your last normal menstrual period? Have you had any previous pregnancies? If yes, were they normal vaginal deliveries or caesarian sections? Have you had any miscarriages? Do you have any allergies? Do you have any reactions to medications, anesthetics or latex? Do you have any health or medical problems? Are you currently on any medications? How much do you weigh?

  Price:from 70 We provide a full range of family-planning and birth-control methods. Our family-planning methods include: Contraceptive pill (R70 per month) Contraceptive injections, namely Nuresterate and Depo-Provera (R150) The loop or IUCD (R800) Minera or IUS Skin patch (Evra) and implants including Norplant or Jadelle (R500) Certain sections of the new Children's Act allow those above 12 access to contraceptives, HIV testing and legal abortion. Emergency contraception, or the morning-after pill, is also available. If you have had unprotected sex, please come in as soon as possible, and not later than 72 hours thereafter. In addition to the emergency contraception, the doctor will advise you on post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent HIV/Aids transmission if necessary.
